Princess Beatrice has called Ellie Goulding her "dearest friend" in a text sent to the singer's phone.
The message was revealed when Goulding appeared on Michael McIntyre's Big Show at the weekend and took part in the comedian's 'Send To All' prank.
During the segment, McIntyre took over Goulding's phone and wrote the following text message: "This might sound a bit weird but I'm writing a song all about you. I'd love some help with the lyrics. I'm on the verse about the first time we met. What do you remember about that unforgettable moment? And if you can make it rhyme even better. Hurry! I'm in the studio right now and my creative juices are flowing."
Goulding received replies from a number of friends and family, including the singer James Blunt and her father-in-law Nicholas Jopling.
But she also received a short poem from her close friend Princess Beatrice, who wrote: "My dearest friend I love so dearly. I feel so lucky, I adore this girl so clearly. From wedding chats to Saturday evening, I adore this lady with every feeling. There truly isn't a time that our friendship could equal a rhyme."
Princess Beatrice and her sister Eugenie have been friends with Goulding for a number of years. Last year, she joined the sisters on a trip to Jordan, also attended by model Karlie Kloss and designer Misha Nonoo, who is also a friend of the Duchess of Sussex.
Beatrice's sister Princess Eugenie was also reportedly responsible for setting Goulding up with her now-husband, Caspar Jopling. Caspar's uncle Jay Jopling runs Paddle8, a successful online auction house where Princess Eugenie worked in New York before moving to Swiss modern art gallery, Hauser & Wirth.
Goulding is also friendly with Prince William and sang at the wedding reception of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011.
