Princess Anne will play prominent role in Prince Charles’ new monarchy

When Prince Charles takes the throne, it's understood he wants a 'slimmed down' monarchy.

This means royal duties would be performed by small number of royals, with other members of The Firm set to be ‘weaned’ off public money including Prince Harry, and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

On Christmas last year, the Queen revealed a new team of eight senior royals and it's believed Charles will follow suit when he's king, Bristol Live reported.

The Prince of Wales' new monarchy will include Charles, Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex, and Princess Anne, with some members adopting new titles to reflect their new positions, according to royal experts.

A royal expert has also said Princess Anne will continue to have a leading role in The Firm when her brother becomes king.

Anne is recognised as the hardest working royal; no stranger to official duties having recently been praised by the Queen for carrying out 12 visits in just four days.

She has also been credited for her role in helping to 'mend' the monarchy following Prince Harry's latest attacks on The Firm.

Royal Editor Robert Jobson told Australian breakfast show Sunrise: “Prince Charles has always said that he wants a slimmed-down Royal Family.

"With him and Camilla as the heads, and then focusing on Prince William and his family.

"That really is going to be it.

"Naturally, I think Princess Anne will continue in a role."

Mr Jobson continued: "She's very deeply respected around the world.

“While she wants to, she'll continue her role.”

Will Princess Anne still be Princess Royal when Charles is king?

While the Prince of Wales will be making some big changes once he ascends the throne, he’s not going to start taking away titles.

Princess Anne was granted the title of Princess Royal by the Queen when she was 36, and it’s understood she won’t be stripped of this title when her mother relinquishes her position.

The Princess Royal title is one which remains for life, so as long as Princess Anne is a member of the royal family she will continue to be known as such.

Only two years apart in age, Charles and Anne reportedly have a ‘close bond’ which will likely be strengthened when Charles becomes monarch.

Despite being different in character the pair have been caught joking together at royal events.

They’ve have lived near each other in Gloucestershire since getting married and their children, Prince William, Prince Harry, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall are said to have been very close as cousins.

More recently, Charles and Anne stood side by side as they led the ceremonial procession behind their father's coffin at Prince Phillip's funeral.
