When is the Princess Anne documentary on ITV and what will be covered in the tell-all show?

ITV are marking the 70th birthday of Princess Anne with the release of a special documentary, Anne: The Princess Royal At 70.

The 90-minute documentary promises to give viewers an unseen look behind the scenes of Anne’s public and private life.

Dubbed “a royal mold-breaker" the documentary will examine the life of "a Princess who refused to follow the script."

When is Anne: The Princess Royal At 70 on TV?

The revealing documentary about Anne will air on ITV at 9pm, Wednesday July 29.

The feature-length documentary will include conversations with her children, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence and others close to her.

Cameras followed the royal for a year to give a previously unseen insight into the famously sharp-witted royal.

Tindall reveals in the film: “I always remember…that she would come home from engagements and she’ll be in exactly what she was wearing and her make-up on and stuff."

She continues: “Put her welly boots on, her jacket on and then she walks up and goes to do her chickens and get her eggs.”

In the documentary, Princess Anne reveals she has watched The Crown, but was surprised when the actress who played her, Erin Doherty, said it took two hours to get her hairstyle right.

“And I’m thinking, ‘How could you possibly take that long?’ I mean it takes me 10 or 15 minutes," she says.

The documentary also finds The Princess Royal teaching her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, how to use Zoom during lockdown.

Princess Anne's life

Princess Anne was the first daughter of a monarch to go to school as well as the first Olympic medallist. She also rejected the offer of titles for her children Zara and Peter Phillips.

In the documentary, old friends will share anecdotes about the Princess Royal and her desire to be seen as “one of the girls."

Anne will also discuss the kidnapping attempt made on her in 1974.

The documentary will also shine a light on the work Anne does for charities across the UK such as Save The Children, Trust for Carers and WISE.

According to ITV’s Controller of Factual, Jo Clinton-Davis says: “With exclusive, up close and extensive access to Princess Anne, her family and those closest to her, this fascinating film is a landmark event on a landmark birthday.”

A date for the documentary is yet to be confirmed but Princess Anne will celebrate her birthday on August 15.
