Princess Anne reads Thomas the Tank Engine in new video shared by Royal Family

The royal family have shared a short video of Princess Anne reading from a “Thomas the Tank Engine” book.

On Thursday the official royal Instagram account shared the short video featuring the Princess Royal reading three lines from the story.

The 69-year-old says: “It was a sunny morning on Sodor, Thomas the Tank Engine was getting ready for a very important job. He was taking the fat controller to London to meet the Queen."

“Thomas’s cab had been swept clean, his firebox was full of coal and he’d been scrubbed till he was the shiniest engine on Sodor,” she continues.

The reading is part of Anne’s work as the patron of Save The Children UK – she is seen wearing the charity’s pin on her jacket in the video.

The charity is currently running the Save with Stories campaign, which was launched to support vulnerable families in the UK and around the world, in response to the pandemic.

HRH has been President of the charity since 1970 and has travelled the world, meeting with volunteers working for the cause.

In April 2020 the Duke of Sussex recorded a message to introduce a special television episode of Thomas & Friends, which featured the Queen and a young Prince Charles.

The classic British character, Thomas, was created by clergyman Reverend Wilbert Awdry as a storybook for his young son.

In Harry’s introduction, which was recorded in January before he stepped down as a senior royal and moved to Los Angeles with his wife and son, he is seen sitting in an armchair at Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry has long been a fan of Thomas the Tank Engine: photos from his first day of nursery in 1987 show him with a Thomas-themed bag.
