The University of Edinburgh has announced Princess Anne as its new chancellor.

She is the university's eighth chancellor in the 150-year history of the position.

But what does it mean for local students? The university's principal, Sir Timothy O'Shea, said:

"I am delighted that The Princess Royal is to become our new chancellor and I welcome her to this important role at the heart of university life."

And her appointment "will be of immense benefit to the whole university community" according to Alan Brown, convenor of the university's general council's business committee.

We want to know what students think. How did previous chancellor, Prince Philip, help you while he held the role between 1953 and 2010?
