Princess Anne begins South Korea tour with solemn war memorial tribute

  • The Princess Royal commenced an official tour of South Korea, beginning with a solemn tribute at the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan.
  • Accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, she laid a wreath commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Imjin River, while also placing a white chrysanthemum on the grave of Private Martin Hogan.
  • Princess Anne toured the cemetery, honouring Victoria Cross heroes like Lieutenant Philip Curtis.
  • The princess met with Korean war veterans, expressing “her deepest respect and gratitude for their immense sacrifice and devotion”, according to a spokesperson for the United Nations Memorial Cemetery.
  • Her engagements also included an audience with South Korean president Lee Jae Myung and a visit to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to hear about the UK–South Korea industrial cooperation.
