Princess Anne and Sophie Wessex to be Queen’s first visitors before her 95th birthday

Princess Anne and Sophie Wessex will be the first to visit the Queen in a royal rota as she grieves Prince Philip’s death before her 95th birthday.

Family members will take it in turns to comfort Elizabeth with walks at Windsor where she will also be accompanied by her two new corgi puppies.

Prince Andrew will be among those to see the Queen in the coming days as will granddaughter Eugenie and her baby August.

The Queen was seen driving a green Jaguar at Windsor Castle on Sunday and has given the message she is “coping”.

She showed courage and resilience during Philip’s funeral.

Now a support group has been formed by the leading females in the Royal Family. Princess Anne will lead the way along with daughters-in-law the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex, and the Duchess of Cambridge.

Camilla is also set to see the Queen this week and offer her support.

Prince Charles’ wife paid tribute to Philip with her online book club as she dedicated its second season to a “great fellow reader”.

She wrote: ““As Patron of Booktrust, which I inherited from my late father-in-law His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, I would like to dedicate the next series of my Reading Room to him, in memory of a great fellow reader..... C."

The Duchess of Cambridge is expected to speak to the Queen by video call (PA)

Princess Anne will visit the Queen from her Gloucestershire home, Gatcombe Park while the Countess of Wessex is expected to make several trips to Windsor with her children Louise, 17, and James, 13.

The Duchess of Cambridge has returned to London with Prince William and their three children since the funeral and she is reported to have arranged several video calls.

The Queen has spent most of the past 13 months at Windsor Castle where she has been isolating from the coronavirus pandemic.

A royal source said: “In typical fashion the Queen has insisted she is coping and despite the suggestion she had prepared herself for this day to come, everyone is well aware there is nothing like the experience when it comes.”

While the Queen is receiving plenty of support, it is unclear yet whether Prince Harry will be at her birthday on Wednesday.

He has an open ticket to return to California and be with Meghan who is pregnant.
