Princes William and Harry will find Spencer movie 'uncomfortable', says Diana's friend

Film fans will finally be able to see the eagerly-anticipated Princess Diana movie, Spencer, when it opens in cinemas later this week.

Set in 1991, the film documents the late princess spending three days with the royal family at Sandringham at Christmas, where she decides to finally end her turbulent marriage to Prince Charles.

Promotional clips for the movie see Diana, played by Twilight star Kristen Stewart, breaking down in tears in front of her young son Prince William, as she struggles to cope with an eating disorder.

Other intense scenes see her character fantasising about throwing herself down the stairs and choking on a pearl necklace.

And one royal expert has said that Diana's sons Princes William and Harry will not be happy with the film's portrayal of their mother.

Richard Kay, a royal journalist who was also a friend of Diana's says the movie plays "fast and loose" with what really happened.

He told the Daily Mail's Palace Confidential show: "I'm not entirely sure either William or Harry will sit down and watch the film, if they do I think they'll find it uncomfortable and difficult at times.

"They'll obviously spot huge gaps where the director has played fast and loose with what actually happened.

"I think one thing we've learnt over the years about the Princess's children is that they take a rather firm view and a rather disappointing view. I guess on all the fictionalised accounts of their mother.

"There have been numerous examples over the years, as well as all the actual factual stories about the tragedy of Diana and Charles' marriage."

However, at the premiere of Spencer last month, actress Kristen Stewart said she and filmmakers were "careful" when producing the movie.

She added that she had to be conscious that Spencer was not exploitative, saying: "People have taken from her for a long time."

Kristen continued: "I think she was a generous person, that’s what I feel from her.

"Our first step into this always was with love and admiration, and if we didn’t love her we wouldn’t have made the movie.

"So, it comes from a genuinely careful and considerate place, and we’re lucky to have had the opportunity."
