Princes William and Harry 'will be uncomfortable' at statue unveiling, says royal chef

A former royal chef has compared Princes William and Harry's feuding relationship to that of their parents.

The brothers will come together at Kensington Palace tomorrow to unveil a statue in honour of their mother Princess Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday.

But Darren McGrady, who worked at Buckingham Palace for 11 years, believes neither William nor Harry will be comfortable attending the event together.

And he compared this to how Diana and Prince Charles felt about each other when they were at events together - saying it was "so sad".

He wrote on Twitter : "Oh the irony. William and Harry attending an event that neither will be comfortable the other one is there.

"Just like their parents Prince Charles and Princess Diana a few years earlier #SoSad."

However, he added that during tomorrow's unveiling Diana will "still be looking down on both and feeling proud of 'her boys'."

Much attention has been focused on the princes and their rift ahead of the event.

Last month, Harry accused the royals of "total neglect" in his Apple TV documentary series, The Me You Can't See.

He also lashed out at his father Charles's parenting in the series and during an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast.

Meanwhile, when they were reunited in April for the funeral of their grandfather Prince Philip, royal author Robert Lacey claimed the pair "started quarrelling" once they were back inside Windsor Castle.

Writing in the Daily Mail, he said: "'There they were, at each other's throats as fiercely as ever,' relates one long-time friend with a tired and helpless shrug.

"The rage and anger between those two has grown so incredibly deep. Too many harsh and wounding things have been said."

But in his latest public appearance, Harry gave a nod to his older brother while paying tribute to young people's "humanitarianism" during an awards ceremony.

Speaking on Monday after a virtual ceremony for The Diana Award, which recognises those who create and sustain positive change, he said: "Later this week, my brother and I are recognising what would have been our mum's 60th birthday, and she would be so proud of you all for living authentic life with purpose and with compassion for others."

It has also been reported that the pair will have a private chat after Thursday's statue unveiling with insiders hoping they can clear the air.
