Prince William 'will be England's last monarch' as future of institution looking bleak

Prince William could be Britain’s ‘last Monarch’, a royal expert has warned.

The Duke of Cambridge may find himself the last King of England, it has been reported this weekend.

As Birmingham Live reports, Wolf Hall author Dame Hilary Mantel told the Telegraph: "I think it’s the end game. I don’t know how much longer the institution will go on.

"I’m not sure if it will outlast William. So I think it will be their last big era.

"I wish the Queen had felt able to abdicate because Charles has had to wait such a long time."

Dame Hilary added: "I wonder if she’s the only person who really believes in the monarchy now, and I’m sure she believes with all her heart."

It comes after Prince Harry's first public appearance since the Duke of Edinburgh's death this weekend.

The Duke of Sussex praised the world's frontline medical workers at a concert in Los Angeles.

Harry appeared among a host of famous names from the worlds of music, film and politics at Global Citizen's Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World, a charity performance in aid of the international Covid vaccination effort.

Prince Harry told the audience this weekend in the US: “Tonight, we stand in solidarity with the millions of families across India, who are battling a devastating second wave.

“The virus does not respect borders, and access to the vaccine cannot be determined by geography.”
