Prince William to watch Hibs' Scottish Cup final clash at Edinburgh rooftop bar

Hibernian are hoping to take home the jewel in the Scottish football crown this weekend when they face St Johnstone in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final - and the men in green and white could have a royal audience cheering them on.

Prince William is set to take in the action from Hampden at a rooftop bar in Edinburgh alongside a number of specially invited frontline workers as part of a week-long visit.

The Duke of Cambridge will be joined by wife and Duchess Kate on the trip north of the border, which will include visits to Orkney and Fife, where the couple met at university in St Andrews.

William is also due to speak at the opening and closing ceremonies of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

But the couple are planning to host two events which will see NHS staff, military personnel and volunteer keyworkers thanked for their efforts during the pandemic.

One will feature the Duke, a passionate Aston Villa fan and president of the Football Association, sitting down to watch Jack Ross’ men take on the Saints at the national stadium at an undisclosed location.

William has previously spoken of his admiration for Hibs hero John McGinn - who featured in the Easter Road side’s 2016 cup win which ended a 114-year wait for the trophy.

However, the Prince also has a further connection with the Hibees after his father, Prince Charles, was presented with a shirt bearing his name during a Prince’s Trust event in 2000.

Whether the Duke will be decked out in green and white is unknown.

The Duke presented Leicester City captain Kasper Schmeichel with the FA Cup trophy following the Foxes win over Chelsea last weekend.

The Capital side could cap one of their greatest ever seasons should they lift the trophy for the second time in five years, but face a tough test against a Saints outfit who have been a bogey team for the men in green and white this season.

The Perth club inflicted a damaging 3-0 defeat on the Leith side at the national stadium in January’s Betfred Cup semi-final and secured a Premiership win at Easter Road earlier this month.

Kate and William are also to host Scottish NHS staff at the Palace of Holyroodhouse for a special drive-in screening of the new Disney film Cruella, according to Tatler.
