'Prince William's secret gestures show how he and Kate are preparing for reign'

Prince William and Kate Middleton have once again shown to the world they are comfortable now with breaking royal protocol, this time by dressing in old clothes to set the theme for the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony.

There’s never been a time when a Royal couple have overstepped the boundaries so much in the public eye.

Like earlier this month at the James Bond premiere, we saw Kate and Wills mixing among the celebrity elite, a revitalising take on old traditions and using the popularity of modern culture to build a following of younger supporters for the Royal Family.

Walking down the green carpet on Sunday, the body language of the couple looked fantastic, with both completely in unison with each other. Looking at their micro-expressions, both were flushing genuine smiles and happiness, showing they were really enjoying the occasion.

Prince William’s choice of turtleneck and green suede suit jacket was a power move. It was a very brave look. I think all will agree that although it appeared Kate dressed down for the occasion in her recycled dress, she was still exuding elegance throughout the night.

The choice to wear old clothes maybe would've made some people feel uncomfortable, but by setting the trend it shows their commitment to the cause and that by pushing the boundaries they can gain support for an organisation or charity the couple both believe in.

There will always be those who want the monarchy to stay very much in the past and to continue the old traditions that the Queen and Prince Philip maintained.

However, I think the vast majority of people are finding Kate and William’s approach to their public appearances and interviews completely refreshing. We are obviously in a very different world to when the Queen came to the throne. I think the relationship between the monarchy and the public that William and Kate have chosen to adopt is a reflection of their willingness and commitment to keep the Royal Family relevant and relatable.

This is another example of the couple maintaining their image of being open, honest and standing by their beliefs. They appear to be a couple very much in love, on the same page and two people that share similar values just from their mirrored movements, the language they use and their general demeanour.

This is just the start of a new era for the Royals with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge leading the line for future family members in the public eye.

The heir to the throne will be keen to put a legacy in place for when he becomes king, and through his and the Duchess' actions in this period, it will lay the foundations for his reign in decades to come.

The Queen was just 27 when she became monarch, so her rule was more or less already dictated by values before her. William is in a completely different position, where he has the chance to shape his own future and therefore his own rule when he is eventually crowned King.
