Prince William’s estate to build 261 homes in Kent

  • Plans for the initial phase of a 2,500-home development on Kent farmland owned by Prince William's Duchy of Cornwall have been granted approval.
  • Swale Borough Council voted 11-5 in favour of the first stage, which includes 261 homes, with 35 per cent designated as affordable, a local centre, and green spaces.
  • Construction for the initial phase is anticipated to commence in 2027/28, aiming to address local housing needs.
  • The scheme faced significant local opposition, with 467 objections citing concerns over increased traffic, loss of agricultural land, and potential harm to the area's character.
  • Supporters highlighted the development's high design standards, its potential to create a sustainable new community, and the provision of much-needed social housing.
