Prince William returning to official duties this week as Kate recovers from abdominal surgery

The Prince of Wales is slowly getting back to work as his wife recovers from abdominal surgery.

He will undertake this Wednesday’s investiture at Windsor Castle whilst the Princess of Wales recuperates at nearby Adelaide Cottage.

On Wednesday evening, he will also attend the London Air Ambulance annual fundraising Gala in Central London.

The prince, a former search and rescue helicopter pilot, is Patron of London’s Air Ambulance.

Kate left hospital last Monday and returned to Adelaide Cottage to be reunited with her three children, after undergoing the planned operation on January 16 at the London Clinic.

At the same private hospital, the King received treatment for an enlarged prostate and was discharged the same day as his daughter-in-law.

William became Patron in March 2020, after supporting the charity’s 30th anniversary in 2019, during which he flew with the crew to launch the 30 Years Saving Lives campaign and met staff and patients from the service at a number of fundraising events.

The Palace said he would juggle childcare, caring for his wife and work commitments.

The exact details of the princess's condition have not been revealed but the Palace said previously it was not cancer-related, and that Kate wished her personal medical information to remain private.

William, 41, was due to return to royal engagements once Kate's care and recovery had settled, but the 42-year-old future queen is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter.
