The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary this year - but their romance stretches back even further.
The couple had known each other for about 10 years before they exchanged their vows at Westminster Abbey, after meeting at St Andrew's University when they were 19.
They started off as friends, living in the same house share before their romance blossomed, and many predicted Prince William would pop the question soon after they graduated in 2005.
However, it was many years later, on this day in 2010, that it was announced that William and Kate were engaged, with his dad Prince Charles famously joking: "They have been practising long enough."

So why did he refuse to marry Kate, earlier? It was reportedly all because of his parents.
In her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, royal expert Katie Nicholl claims William vowed he would never be pressured into marriage before he was ready.
She claims he learnt from his parents' ill-fated relationship and was determined he wouldn't do the same.

She writes: "He was aware his father had been pressured into marrying Diana because she was deemed the suitable bride.
"He was reluctant to bow to similar pressure and vowed not to be hurried at the altar. He made his feelings clear, telling a journalist in an off-guard moment that he had no plans of getting married any time soon."

However, it appears that within time, William realised that Kate really was the one and when he got down on one knee, he presented her with his late mother's engagement ring.
Speaking in an interview after announcing their engagement, William revealed how special Princess Diana's ring was to him.
He said: "It is my mother's engagement ring.

"It is very special to me and Kate is very special to me now as well. It is only right the two are put together. It is my way of making sure my mother didn't miss out on today."
Now, 11 years on from their engagement, the couple have welcomed three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis - and released several loved-up portraits earlier this year to mark their 10th wedding anniversary.
And the photographer who snapped them, Chris Floyd, recently revealed how much t he couple love being in each other's company.
He told US Weekly : "I would say that they were just like any married couples. They were just like any married couple who seemed to just love being very happy in each other’s company. It was that straightforward.
“I just said, ‘Look, this is your 10th anniversary, just be the couple that you are with each other and forget that I’m here. They don’t need me to tell them how to be with each other.”
