Prince William modelling himself on Queen and doesn't feel trapped, royal expert claims

Prince William is embracing his destiny and “modelling himself on his grandmother the Queen”, a royal expert has claimed.

Prince Harry has said he felt “trapped” in the Royal Family in interviews with Oprah Winfrey but author Penny Junor instead insisted William is comfortable with his future.

Harry had claimed during an interview with Oprah in March that William and Prince Charles were both “trapped” while giving an insight into life as a royal.

Ms Junor, who wrote Prince William: The Man Who Will Be King said that Harry had got it completely wrong.

She told The Sun: “Harry is absolutely wrong. I don’t think William feels trapped at all.

“I think he absolutely gets what his destiny is and he is embracing it.

"He is modelling himself on his grandmother the Queen.”

Harry has frequently spoken out about his problems with life as a royal since his move to California where he has said he is more relaxed.

He has revealed how he knew in his early 20s that he didn’t want that way of life and he has compared it to “living in a zoo”.

In an interview with Oprah, Harry said he was “trapped within the system, like the rest of my family are.”

He added: “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don't get to leave.”

Harry is now sixth in line to the throne following the birth of William’s children with his own son Archie seventh.

The Duke of Sussex also revealed during a five-part series on mental health, that he co-produced with Oprah, how he was made to “suffer” in the Royal Family by his father Charles in the same way as he had done.

He felt trapped and that the only option for him was to break the cycle by starting a new life away from them.

He told Oprah: “Certainly now I will never be bullied into silence.

“I thought my family would help, but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence, total neglect.

“We spent four years trying to make it work. We did everything that we possibly could to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job. But Meghan was struggling.”

A royal source has also denied that William is struggling with his role, and like Ms Junor said that he looks up to the Queen as a role-model.

"He is very much his grandmother's grandson in that respect of duty and service," the source, who is close to both brothers, told the Sunday Times.
