Members of the Royal Family spent lockdown isolating in their countryside castles and estates, but with restrictions easing they have gradually returned to a semi-normal life - including, it would seem, taking a holiday.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were reportedly spotted on a staycation with their children Prince George, Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte on the Isles of Scilly.
The Cambridges and their children were seen on Tresco, where an onlooker saw the couple cycling and making the most of the glorious weather.
According to The Mirror, the family is in Tresco for a “quick getaway before the children return to school.” Prince George and Princess Charlotte both attend Thomas’ Battersea, while the youngest in the family Prince Louis has yet to start schooling.
Another onlooker told the Daily Mail they “did do a double take” as the Duke and Duchess cycled past. They said: “William and Kate were riding their bicycles, having a laugh. They looked so happy enjoying the weather...They were really friendly and said hello.”
The spot is one that holds significance for Prince William, as he, his parents Princess Diana and Prince Charles and brother Prince Harry previously visited in 1989. He and Kate also vacationed there in 2016, where they spent time at the Tresco Abbey Garden.
The lowkey holiday is in stark contrast to their reported summer vacation last year, where the family is said to have stayed at the £27k per week Villa Antilles in Mustique. According to The Sun, they stayed on the Caribbean island for two weeks at the villa which features an 18m infinity pool and Jacuzzi, private bar and top of the line service.
Over lockdown, the Cambridges left their London home Kensington Palace to stay at their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk with the children. While living there, Prince William and Kate have continued to support their charity patronages via video call and Kate launched a community photography project, calling on the public to share special photos taken over lockdown.
