Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoy West Country staycation with the kids

Like many other families looking to play it safe amid travel complications due to Covid-19, the Cambridges have kept to UK shores for a holiday break.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reported to have travelled from their home in Kensington Palace to the West Country for a staycation.

They took Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis on the almost 300-mile journey to the Isles of Scilly.

It's the second year in a row the family has visited the islands off the coast of Cornwall.

Their holiday destination was revealed by Hello! and the Cambridges are thought to have stayed on the island of Tresco, which is privately owned.

They were spotted last summer cycling on the island greeting locals as they pedalled.

“William and Kate were riding their bicycles, having a laugh. They looked so happy enjoying the weather," said one holidaymaker at the time.

“I did do a double take. They were really friendly and said hello.”

A source told the Mirror: "They decided on a quick getaway before the children return to school. They were keen to support our travel industry."

For Prince William, it is a return to a spot he's visited on several occasions from a young age.

He was snapped on the islands in 1989 wearing shorts and a red jumper on a bike ride with Prince Charles, Princess Diana and Prince Harry.

Then in 2016 he returned to the islands with his wife on an official trip, visiting the island of St Martins as well as Tresco Abbey Garden.
