Prince William and Kate Middleton announce beloved dog Lupo has died

Prince William and Kate Middleton have announced their beloved dog Lupo has died.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted the sad news on their official Kensington Royal Instagram page today (Sunday) alongside a picture of Lupo.

Beside the picture they wrote: "Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away.

"He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. - W & C."

The English Cocker Spaniel was bred from a dog owned by Kate's parents Michael and Carole Middleton.

Lupo, which means wolf in Italian, was given to the couple by Michael and Carole, the Mirror reports.

The family pet has been seen out with the royal family on numerous occasions and has even appeared in various official photos with them.

First following the birth of their first son, Prince George, he later appeared in a family portrait of the Duke and Duchess with their son in 2014.

It has previously been reported that Lupo was brought into the family as a means of support for Kate while Prince William was away in the Falkland Islands.
