It has been an interest he has passed down to his children and now Prince William and Kate are joining royalty and world leaders at The United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP26) today in Glasgow.
To kick off their visit, Prince William and Kate, who is Joint President of The Scout Association alongside The Duke of Kent, attended Alexandra Park Sports Hub in Dennistoun.
The couple met with Scouts and learned more about the Scouts’ #PromiseToThePlanet campaign, before heading to the summit.
During their visit they were taught how Scouts around the world have been raising awareness of climate change and doing their bit to address it.
William and Kate's visit comes ahead of them attending a reception this evening, where they will meet with the winners and finalists of the inaugural Earthshot Prize.
The initiative, set up by William, aims to find solutions to the planet's environmental problems and overcome the pessimism felt by many on its future.
Earlier today, William marked the start of the COP26 summit by sending a rare personal tweet from the official Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Twitter account.

He wrote: "#COP26 is a landmark moment for the future of our planet -- I'm proud that our @EarthshotPrize Finalists will be joining me in Glasgow to show the world that there is reason to be optimistic. I'm hopeful about what can be achieved."
William signed off the tweet W, showing it was a personal message.
Her Majesty, The Queen was to also be joining the family and staying in Edinburgh, however on medical advice, she will be staying at home and providing a recorded video.
