Prince's Trust autumn initiative offers Wishaw youngsters the opportunity to develop their skills

Wishaw youngsters are being offered the chance to develop their skills, confidence and employment opportunities thanks to an initiative run by the Prince’s Trust and New College Lanarkshire.

The Prince’s Trust “Team Programme” is accepting referrals for its autumn programmes, held at the college’s Motherwell, Coatbridge and Cumbernauld campuses.

Open to anyone aged 16 to 25 and unemployed, the programme offers development of skills, qualifications and work experience over a 12-week fully funded programme.

The intake follows the success of more than 170 young people completing the programme since its launch at New College Lanarkshire last year, with many going on to employment, college programmes and other positive destinations.

Successful participants of this year’s summer programme celebrated at special awards ceremonies where they shared experiences and learnings with classmates, friends, family and tutors, which included work placements, residential and team-building activities.

Stuart Matson, community programmes manager and responsible for Prince’s Trust teams at the college, said: “Since the restart of ‘Team Programmes’, over 150 young people have benefitted and have improved their skills, confidence and future prospects.

“We are now recruiting for our autumn teams and welcome any referrals and partnerships with employers and community agencies in regards to opportunities for placements, community projects and team challenge.

“We need your support in making this the most successful programme of its kind in Lanarkshire.”

Jamie Hirrell, programme executive at the Prince’s Trust, added: “We are a strong supporter and partner of the college and will develop the programme and offer post programme support and progression routes.”
