Following Prince’s Rally 4 Peace concert in Baltimore, Jay Z, Beyoncé and Alicia Keys have shown their support for the families of Freddie Gray and Michael Brown.
Marking the end of the 10pm curfew imposed on the city following protests over the death of Gray, Prince’s tribute to the 25-year-old who died in police custody, drew thousands Baltimore’s Royal Farms arena on Sunday.
The gig aired via Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal, which removed its paywall and sign-up process for this event. On Wednesday, however, Prince reactivated his Twitter account to launch images from the show, as well as posting the full audio from the gig on to Soundcloud.
Alicia Keys, Beyoncé and Jay Z were also in attendance at the Rally 4 Peace event on 10 May. The stars posted backstage images of both Gray’s family and the mother of Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was shot in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014 by a white police officer.
During the concert, a number of guest performers including Miguel, Estelle and Questlove arrived on stage, while a video installation featuring footage from the protests was projected, as well as the original music video for Raspberry Beret.
Prince also performed Baltimore, the song he wrote in tribute to Gray and other victims of police brutality, which includes the lyrics “Does anybody hear us pray? / For Michael Brown or Freddie Gray?”
