The Duke of Edinburgh has now spent seven nights in hospital in London after he was admitted as a precautionary measure.
Prince Philip was admitted to the private King Edward VII’s Hospital in central London last Tuesday evening, travelling to hospital by car and walking into the building without assistance.
Prince William revealed that his grandfather was “ok” when questioned as he visited a vaccination centre in Norfolk on Monday. He said: “ Yes, he’s ok, they’re keeping an eye on him.”
Prince Philip, who will turn 100 in June, was initially only due to spend a few days in the private hospital for “observation and rest” according to the PA news agency. The reason he is under medical care has not been disclosed, although the palace has said the matter is not coronavirus related.
On Friday the PA news agency the duke would probably need to remain in hospital into this week, citing royal sources. They added that Prince Philip’s doctor is “acting with an abundance of caution.”
Other members of the royal family have continued their duties as normal since the duke was admitted to hospital. However, he did receive a visit on Saturday from his son, the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles made a 100 mile trip to the hospital from his home in Highgrove, Gloucestershire.
Prince Philip and the Queen have spent the most recent lockdown at Windsor castle. In January they both received their vaccinations against Covid-19.
The duke last spent time in hospital in 2019 when he was discharged after four nights, having been treated for a “pre-existing condition.”
