Prince Philip's funeral: Just 30 mourners allowed, if Prince Harry will make it and the rules around mourning

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh will have a maximum of 30 mourners present due to Covid-19 guidelines in the UK.

The Duke opted to have a military style funeral in the lead up to his death, as opposed to the state funeral he was entitled to as husband as Queen Elizabeth II.

Immediate family members, such as Prince Philip’s children, Prince Charles and Prince Anne are expected to be in attendance with cousins Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice also likely to attend.

Prince Harry is said to be making arrangements to return to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral, at the end of the eight day mourning period.

A source close to the royal family told the Daily Mail: “Harry will absolutely do his utmost to get back to the UK and be with his family.

"He will want nothing more than to be there for his family, and particularly his grandmother, during this awful time.

The Duchess Meghan Markle is not expected to return for the funeral service with Prince Harry due to her pregnancy.

"Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go.”

Operation Fourth is currently underway, since Prince Philip was pronounced dead yesterday at approximately midday.

Queen Elizabeth II is said to be consulting the senior officials of the Royal Household and Prime Minister Boris Johnson over the particular details she wants included in the funeral arrangements.

Since yesterday’s announcement, flags have been lowered to fly at half mast, television presenters have worn black attire and no new laws can be passed by the British parliament during the mourning period.

Prince Philip’s funeral will be held in St George's Chapel, in the grounds of Windsor Castle, at 15:00pm Saturday, 17 April.
