Prince Philip's funeral details announced with national minute's silence

The details of Prince Philip's funeral have been announced along with a national minute's silence.

The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will take place at 3pm on Saturday, April 17, at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

Due to coronavirus restrictions the service will be kept within the grounds of Windsor Castle and only 30 guests will be able to attend.

The Queen has had final approval of the plans which have been made in line with government guidelines.

Prince Philip's coffin will be placed on a specially-built Landrover, which was commissioned for the funeral and which he "had a hand" in designing himself.

It will be driven to St Georges Chapel, and members of the Royal Family including the Prince of Wales will follow behind on foot.

The official guest list for the funeral is yet to be confirmed.

It has been confirmed that Prince Harry will be travelling from his home in the US to attend, but his pregnant wife Meghan will not attend, having been advised by a doctor not to travel.

There will be a national minute's silence on the day of the funeral as the coffin arrives at the Chapel at 3pm.

The public is being urged not to attend Windsor Castle and to instead pay their respects by watching the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral on television.
