Prince Philip's death certificate lists cause of death, full name and jobs

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, died of 'old age' according to his death certificate.

The Queen's husband died peacefully at home at Windsor Castle aged 99 last month, and his life was celebrated in a small, diginified funeral ceremony.

His death notice has now been published, as is formally required in law.

It was certified by Sir Huw Thomas, head of the royal medical household, reports The Mail.

A decision of 'old age' can be accepted as the cause of death if the patient was over 80 and the doctor certifying cared for the person in question over a long period.

The Daliy Telegraph, which obtained the certificate, says there is no mention of the heart disease or infection which saw the Duke hospitalised for several weeks this year - undergoing surgery.

The Duke’s death has been registered with the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead by his private secretary, Brigadier Archie Miller-Bakewell.

It lists the Duke’s name as: ‘His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh formerly known as Prince Philippos of Greece and Denmark formerly known as Philip Mountbatten.’

The certificate lists his occupation as ‘Naval Officer’ and ‘Prince of the United Kingdom’
