Prince Philip: Covid rules the Royal Family will have to follow at funeral

The Royal Family is set to gather on Saturday at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh – and, like everyone else, they will have to follow the UK government's strict coronavirus rules.

A maximum of 30 guests will be able to attend the ceremony as Prince Philip is laid to rest in Windsor at St George's Chapel.

Pallbearers and funeral officials do not count towards this number.

The full guest list is expected to be released later this week, reports CornwallLive.

It is already understood Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and PM Boris Johnson will not be in attendance.

With the exception of people who are in the same household or support bubble, all mourners will have to socially distance from each other in order to limit the risk of Covid-19 transmission.

This means that, unless the Queen is part of a bubble, she will have to sit alone during the service.

Face coverings will also be worn at all times, unless a legitimate exemption applies.

Members of the public have been told they will not be able to participate in the events on the day and the duke will not lie in state.

Prince Philip opted for a more low-key ceremonial funeral instead of a full state funeral before he passed away.

The funeral of Prince Philip will be televised and take place on Saturday, April 17, at 3pm.
