Prince Philip admitted to hospital: reports

Prince Philip, 99, has been admitted to hospital.

The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII hospital in London on Tuesday evening.

According to reports, his admission was taken as a "precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness's Doctor, after feeling unwell."

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London, on Tuesday evening.

"The Duke's admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness's Doctor, after feeling unwell.

"The Duke is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest."

There is no indication as to the reason behind him feeling unwell.

The Duke is due to mark his 100th birthday on June 10 this year.

According to Chris Ship, ITV's royal correspondent, Prince Philip has been staying in Windsor with the Queen during lockdown.

It has been reported his illness is not Covid related and that he travelled to central London by car and it was not treated as an emergency admission.

Chris Ship added that the Duke walked unaided.
