Prince Jackson, the eldest son of Michael Jackson, has announced his engagement to his long-term girlfriend Molly Schirmang in a post that paid tribute to the late King of Pop.
The 28-year-old shared the happy news on Instagram on Tuesday with a carousel of photographs marking key moments from their eight-year relationship.
“8 years down, infinity to go,” he wrote in the caption. “Molly and I have spent a lot of time together and made incredible memories. We’ve travelled the world, graduated and grown so much together. I’m excited for this next chapter in our lives as we continue to grow and make great memories. I love you babs.”
In a nod to his father, who died in 2009 aged 50, Prince set the post to Michael Jackson’s 1987 ballad I Just Can’t Stop Loving You.
Among the photos were snaps of the couple graduating from Loyola Marymount University, where Prince studied business with a focus on entrepreneurship, as well as a family shot taken outside Hayvenhurst, the Jackson family’s historic Encino estate, alongside his grandmother Katherine, 95.
Well-wishes quickly poured in, including from cousin Taryll Jackson — son of Tito Jackson of the Jackson 5 — who commented: “Congrats!!!”
Prince is one of Michael’s three children. He and his sister Paris, 27, were born during the star’s marriage to Debbie Rowe, while his youngest son Bigi, 23 — previously known as Blanket — was born via surrogacy.
Michael Jackson died in Los Angeles in 2009 after suffering a cardiac arrest while rehearsing for his planned 50-show comeback at London’s O2 Arena. His legacy continues to be scrutinised amid longstanding abuse allegations, including those revisited in the 2019 documentary Leaving Neverland.
Prince’s happy news comes against a backdrop of reported tensions between his sister Paris and the executors of their father’s estate.
Paris has publicly accused lawyers of “skimming money” from the estate, claims strongly denied by attorney Jonathan Steinsapir, who pointed to the financial recovery achieved on behalf of the Jackson children.
He’s not the only celebrity to announce their engagement this week. Just a day earlier, Taylor Swift confirmed she is set to marry NFL star Travis Kelce after two years of dating.
