Prince Harry UK schedule: What Harry’s doing in London as he arrives for Diana statue unveiling

Prince Harry arrived in the UK on Friday, ahead of attending a special event at Kensington Palace later this week.

Harry made the trip from LA in order to attend the unveiling of a statue of his mother Princess Diana this Thursday (July 1), to mark what would have been her 60th birthday.

He will reunite with his brother Prince William and close friends and family of their late mother Diana at the event, but Kate Middleton won’t be in attendance.

It comes as the guest list has had to be drastically scaled back due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Meghan Markle also won't be there, as she is staying in California to look after their newborn daughter Lilibet and son Archie.

Harry is staying at his Windsor residence, Frogmore Cottage, during his stay, which has been on loan to his cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank since Christmas.

He is expected to quarantine there until Thursday when he will attend the Diana statue unveiling in London.

The Palace has not confirmed how long Harry intends to stay in the UK and it seems likely he will fly back to the US soon after the statue unveiling.

As tensions between Prince Harry and his royal relatives continue to run high, it’s expected Prince Harry’s trip will be brief, although he will be reunited with his brother at the event.

Harry is unlikely to meet the Queen during this trip to Britain as she is in Scotland for Hollyrood week.

It might be that Prince Harry gets an opportunity to see Kate Middleton and their children as Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease.

Whether or not Harry will meet his father Prince Charles remains to be seen.

Kensington Palace released a statement confirming plans for Thursday's event.

The statement read: "Prince William and Prince Harry will attend a small event to mark the unveiling of a statue they commissioned of their mother, Diana Princess of Wales, in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace on Thursday, July 1."

The statement added: "In addition to close family of Diana, Princess of Wales, members of the statue committee, the sculptor, Ian Rank-Broadley, and garden designer Pip Morrison, will also be present.

"Further details about the statue and garden will be provided on July 1."

The statue is expected to be spectacular, having been designed by Ian Rank-Broadley, who designed the UK’s coins which feature the Queen’s face.

The statue will, of course, be of the Princess and will be surrounded by her favourite flowers, including forget-me-nots, white lilies, white roses and tulips.
