Prince Harry 'still eyeing' UK return in July for Diana statue unveiling

Prince Harry is said to be adamant about a UK return this summer to unveil a statue of his late mother - although wife Meghan is not set to join him.

The Duke of Sussex is said to have "vowed" that he will still attend Kensington Palace on what would have been Princess Diana's 60th birthday.

Harry's presence had been in doubt because of Covid travel restrictions likely to affect his journey from his new home in the USA, the cancellation of the Invictus Games and his wife Meghan's pregnancy.

The ceremony, on July 1, will also be attended by his brother Prince William, the Mirror reports.

A source told the Daily Express: “I thought he would still come over until I saw that the Invictus Games was off. Now I’m not so sure.”

Another said: “I can’t see him coming over now with a baby due.”

But the newspaper reports that Harry is "adamant" he will be at the unveiling ceremony.

William and Harry had commissioned the statue, which will sit in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace, where Diana lived before she died, in 2017.

It was first announced to mark the 20th anniversary of her death, but while the creation progressed the installation was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking when the statue was first announced, a source close to the Palace reportedly said: “Prince William and Prince Harry have dreamed of doing this for a long time.

"They were both just boys when their mother passed away, but are both now fully grown men and want to honour her in the best way possible.

"It has taken 20 years for this to finally come to fruition so they are determined it will be a lasting and fitting legacy in what is their official London residence and a place special to them both."
