Prince Harry shares new hobby he has lined up for Archie and promises UK return

Prince Harry has revealed plans to introduce baby son Archie to Rugby League - and has promised to return to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex hopes the 15-month-old royal will develop the same love for the sport he has, but the dad-of-one is currently struggling to find mini rugby balls small enough.

He was speaking during a special Zoom quiz of players, coaches and volunteers from Rugby Football League to mark its 125th birthday.

The former senior royal was joined by St Helens Women’s Super League players Gemma Walsh and Emily Rudge, Leeds Rhinos and England star Jamie Jones-Buchanan and his son Kurgan, Newcastle Thunder’s Jordan Robinson and academy player Alex Donaghy as well as volunteer Fionna Everson.

Harry, who has now settled in Santa Barbara with wife Meghan and little Archie, after officially quitting the Firm in March, is the league's patron.

"What I need is a few mini rugby balls that I can then get Archie involved with the game, because at the moment it's impossible to find any," he told the group.

"But I've got a little space outside, which I'm fortunate enough to have so I need to get him playing some Rugby League.

"I'm just unbelievably fortunate and grateful to have outdoor space and see my son able to be outside, because I know so many people just haven't had that opportunity in the last five months," Harry said, referring to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Our little man is our number one priority but our work after that is the second priority and we’re just trying to do everything we can to do our part to make the world a better place," he added.

Harry went on to assure those in the virtual chat that he has plans to return to the UK - in particular for the Rugby World Cup which begins in October next year.

"I would've been back already had it not been for Covid, so don't worry. You guys and the Rugby League community will have my commitment for as long as I can give it to you," he said.

The duke had conducted the World Cup draw on January 16 at Buckingham Palace - his first public appearance after he and Meghan announced they would be quitting the Royal Family on January 8.

The couple's move into their £11.1million nine-bed pad in Montecito, Santa Barbara, saw them take out a £7.25m mortgage after getting some financial help from Prince Charles.

The property also includes a library, cinema, gym, spa and sauna - as well as 16 bathrooms.
