Next week marks 25 years since Princess Diana's death and Prince Harry has spoken a heartbreaking wish for his children ahead of the anniversary
On Thursday the Duke of Sussex was in Aspen, Colorado, in the US, where he delivered a speech to raise funds for his charity Sentebale but also took the time to honour his late mother.
Speaking from the stage he expressed a heartbreaking wish he harbours for his two children, Archie and Lilibet.
He said: "Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother's death, and she most certainly will never be forgotten.
"I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way that she did it.
"I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, whom I wish could have met her."
Princess Diana was killed in a car crash in Paris 31 1997 whilst trying to escape paparazzi chasing her in a tunnel.
Her death came one year after her divorce from Prince Charles had been finalised.
Although no longer married to Prince Charles, Diana continued her work with charities and campaigns, such as ending the stigma surrounding people affected by HIV and leprosy and advocating for the international ban on landmines.
That humanitarian sense has translated to her children with both Harry and William working with and starting charities of their own.
Prince Harry founded Sentebale in 2006 and the charity helps children and young people whose lives have been affected by HIV and Aids and provide them with tools to thrive in the future.
The charity was founded in Lesotho after Harry visited the country shortly after finishing his time at Eton College and since then the charity has expanded and succeeded with operations now extending to Botswana.
It's not the first time Harry has spoken about his saddest knowing his children will never meet their grandmother.
In April, US broadcaster Hoda Kotb asked Harry if he speaks to Archie about his late mother.
He said: "Yes. Yeah, yeah. Very much so. I don't tell him all the stuff that happened. But certainly that this is, you know, grandma Diana and we've got a couple of photos up in the house."
Prince William has also said he speaks to his children about his mother and wants them to "know who she was and that she existed".
Appearing in the Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy documentary in 2017, the future King said: "We’ve got more photos up around the house now of her and we talk about her a bit."
He added: "It’s hard because obviously Catherine didn’t know her so she cannot really provide that level of detail, so I regularly put George and Charlotte to bed, talk about her and just try to remind them that there are two grandmothers, there were two grandmothers in their lives.
“So it’s important that they know who she was and that she existed.”
