Prince Harry 'set to return home to UK' following Prince Phillip's death but it's unknown if Meghan will accompany him

Prince Harry is set to fly back to the UK following the death of his grandfather Prince Phillip, according to reports.

The Palace announced this afternoon that sadly the Duke of Edinburgh passed away on Friday morning.

The Duke of Sussex is said to be making arrangements to return to the UK from Los Angeles, where he now resides with his pregnant wife Meghan Markle and their son Archie.

It's unknown if Meghan and Archie will return to the UK with him.

A source close to the royal family told the Daily Mail: “Harry will absolutely do his utmost to get back to the UK and be with his family.

"He will want nothing more than to be there for his family, and particularly his grandmother, during this awful time.

"Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go.”

Although members of the Royal Family have not paid their respects verbally yet, senior royals have made visual tributes by uploading photos of the official coats of arms onto their social media pages.

The Royal Family's Instagram account changed its social media profile image from a photo of the Queen to the United Kingdom's crest.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's handle, Kensington palace, also changed its image.

In place of their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis clapping for carers the official monogram was uploaded.

Clarence House removed a photo of Prince Charles and Camilla and adopted its crest, the Prince of Wales's feathers.

All three Instagram accounts shared the black and white image of the Duke of Edinburgh, dressed in his military uniform, released by the Palace today.

The Duke of Edinburgh had been reunited with the Queen weeks before his death after a 28 night stay at a London hospital.

Having recently been treated for a pre-existing heart condition and an infection, his death came just two months before his 100th birthday.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

"Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

A framed plaque containing the statement was placed on the metal fence at the Palace, where the Union Jack flag was lowered to half mast.

It is expected the Duke will be buried in Frogmore Gardens following a small family service at St George's Chapel.

Philip retired from public duty in 2017 and made his last official appearance in July 2020 at Windsor Castle.

Greece-born Philip was the third longest-living British royal, behind Princess Alice, who died aged 102 in 2004, and the Queen Mother, who was 101 when she died in 2002, and had been married to the Queen for 73 years.
