Prince Harry's therapy explained by Good Morning Britain's Dr Amir Khan

Prince Harry's therapy sessions have been broken down by Good Morning Britain's Dr Amir Khan.

In his new documentary series, Prince Harry is seen participating in a session of eye movement, desensitisation, reprocessing therapy.

Throughout his new AppleTV+ docuseries The Me You Can't See, which drops today (Friday, May 21) which he co-created with Oprah Winfrey, the Duke of Sussex, 36, details the positive impacts of therapy.

He even filmed a session of EMDR (eye movement, desensitisation, reprocessing) therapy, which provides bilateral stimulation by either getting the person to move their eyes, tap on them or have them tap themselves.

On GMB this morning Dr Amir Khan explained exactly how this works.

He said: "Their therapy, EMDR, people when they've had generally traumatic life experiences have a tendency to bury it away in their minds, in their brains and it stops them from healing and they often then get things like post traumatic stress disorder.

"And what this therapy aims to do is unlock some of that. So what we've seen Prince Harry doing there is using external stimulus, tapping on his shoulder here."

"But what the therapist will do is ask the patient or client to focus on a particular part of a traumatic memory and whilst they're doing that they will ask them to either move their eyes very quickly, follow their hands or use external stimulus, like we saw Harry doing there.

"The idea is, that external stimulus stimulates the brain to process that memory."

The Me You Can't See drops today on Friday, May 21 on Apple TV+.

All episodes will be available to watch on the online platform the same day.
