Prince Harry's blunt six-word reply when asked why he's not given up royal titles

Prince Harry gave a quick and blunt response when he was asked why he has not given up his royal titles in the second of two televised interviews ahead of his book release tomorrow.

The Duke of Sussex appeared on ITV AT 9pm last night for his first interview about Spare before appearing on American TV screens for an interview with CBS's 60 minutes.

US broadcaster Anderson Cooper asked Prince Harry why he and wife Meghan had kept their royal titles and not given them up when they stood down from their roles in January 2020.

The couple had been given the titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on their wedding day in 2018 by the late Queen.

During the interview Mr Cooper asked: "Why not renounce your titles as Duke and Duchess?"

Harry replied: "And what difference would that make?"

Mr Cooper added: "One of the criticisms that you've received is that okay, fine, you wanna move to California, you wanna step back from the institutional role.

"Why be so public? Why reveal conversations you've had with your father or with your brother? You say you tried to do this privately."

Harry added: " And every single time I've tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife.

"You know, the family motto is 'never complain, never explain'. But it's just a motto. And it doesn't really hold."

Last night's interview on ITV with Tom Bradby was filmed in California, where the Duke of Sussex now lives with wife Meghan Markle and their two children.

Harry: The Interview saw the Prince go into depth and detail on his life in the Royal Family – and also saw him exchange awkward and fiery moments with interviewer Tom as they dissected the past decades.

Tom, who has known Prince Harry for more than 20 years, raised the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey two years ago, which saw the Duchess of Sussex say ‘concerns’ were raised about baby Archie's skin colour before he was born.

As the discussion came to a close, Tom asked Harry what he thought his brother would say if he were watching the ITV interview.

However, Harry flatly refused to answer the question and said he would not share what he would say.

Tom replied: “Okay, no, not a personal thing, let me ask you a different question,” before pivoting to ask if he thought his father or brother would watch the interview or read his memoir, to which he said he hoped they would but doubted it.
