Prince Harry may one day have 'US royal role' if he gives up all titles

Prince Harry may one day have a “US royal role” as America’s First Gentleman.

The speculation began after a source close to his wife Meghan claimed she would “seriously” consider running for President.

Speaking to the magazine Vanity Fair about the Duchess of Sussex, the source said: “One reason she was so keen not to give up her American citizenship was so she had the option to go into politics.

“I think if Meghan and Harry ever gave up their titles, she would seriously consider running for President.”

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom told the Mirror: “A year ago, it would have been virtually impossible for Meghan to run for President, but since dropping her royal duties in January odds have plummeted to 20/1.

“With sources claiming she is ‘seriously’ considering a move into politics, it looks more and more likely we could see her name on the ballot in 2024.”

This week, the Sussexes sparked anger in the US after involving themselves in the November Presidential election.

The former senior royals told American voters to “reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity” in a video message from their £11.4million California mansion.

Meghan, 39, went on to say the ballot was the “most important election of our lifetime,” seeming to imply a new leader is needed.

The Duchess added: “When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard.”

Harry, 36, chimed in: “When one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It’s time to not only reflect but act.” Their words appeared to breach the strict royal protocol of political impartiality.

Many voters took it as an attack on President Donald Trump, and the video has alienated millions of his supporters.

Mr Trump himself later slammed Meghan, saying: “I’m not a fan of hers.” He added: “I wish a lot of luck to Harry, he’s gonna need it.”

Buckingham Palace immediately distanced itself from the couple’s comments.

Those working closely with the Duchess insist she has no plans to run for office.
