Prince Harry is reminded of mum Diana 'every time he sees a camera'

Prince Harry is reminded of his mother's death every time a camera goes off, he explained in a candid interview.

During his recent trip to South Africa with wife Meghan and baby Archie, the Duke of Sussex spoke of how it felt to be walking in the footsteps of Princess Diana.

As his mother had done before him, the prince walked across a minefield in Angola to raise awareness about the risk the country's people face.

Prince Harry told ITV: “It’s been quite emotional retracing my mother’s steps, 22 years on. Let’s finish what was started.”

When asked whether he had found peace 22 years on from Diana's death, the Duke was honest in explaining how long the grieving process had continued.

“I think (it's) probably a wound that festers," he said.

"I think being part of this family, in this role, in this job, every single time I see a camera, every single time I hear a click, every single time I see a flash it takes me straight back so in that respect it’s the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best."

The prince went on to say that while the trip to Angola had been emotional, he was constantly reminded of his mother wherever he was.

In the lead up to the 10-day tour, which finished in Johannesburg, Prince Harry said he was very excited to introduce Meghan and their son Archie to the place he describes as his second home.

During a speech to young entrepreneurs at the end of the trip Harry spoke about his first visit in 1997, when Charles told him and brother William to pack their bags as they were going to Africa to "get away from it all".

He said: "I know that there are daily struggles that most of us couldn’t begin to imagine.

"Yet I have seen strength, resilience, a sense of hope and empathy that I can only aspire to replicate.

"Ever since I came to this continent as a young boy, trying to cope with something I can never possibly describe, Africa has held me in an embrace that I will never forget, and I feel incredibly fortunate for that.

"And every time I come here; I know that I’m not alone.

"I always feel - wherever I am on this continent - that the community around me provides a life that is enriching, and is rooted in the simplest things - connection, connections with others and the natural environment."

That’s all in Harry & Meghan: An African Journey' airs this Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
