Prince Harry in new touching tribute to Prince Philip during moving Earth Day message

Prince Harry has paid touching tribute to his late grandfather Prince Philip in a statement about conservation on Earth Day.

The Duke of Sussex, 36, has long been a champion of environmental causes and has narrated a video to mark the annual event.

He also released a short statement alongside the clip in which he praises the Duke of Edinburgh, who passed away earlier this month.

Harry said he was using Earth Day to "reflect on generations of conservation champions, including my late grandfather."

And he added that he feels "proud and energised to continue doing my part in this legacy".

Philip died peacefully at Windsor Castle on the morning of April 9.

His funeral - attended by 30 guests in line with coronavirus restrictions - was held on April 17.

Harry flew back from his home in California to be at the service, although his heavily pregnant wife Meghan Markle, 39, did not travel.

The duke's conservation clip and statement was shared on Twitter by royal reporter Omid Scobie.

The video is said to highlight "the importance of resourcing national parks and protection areas".

And Harry's accompanying statement reads: "As we now begin to move towards an era of global recovery and regeneration, it's critical that we continue to look at the strengthening and protecting of biodiversity, not just as a value we hold - but as a responsibility that is vital to our way of life.

"On this Earth Day, I reflect on the generations of conservation champions, including my late grandfather, and feel proud and energised to continue doing my part in this legacy.

"This year especially, I join the incredible African Parks team and communities around the world in shared dedication to our environment and collective well-being."

Mr Scobie wrote: " Prince Harry has narrated a re-release of @AfricanParks ’ “Hope Starts Here" for #EarthDay.

"The video highlights the importance of resourcing national parks and protection areas to help deliver essentials like clean air and water, food security, jobs, education and healthcare."

In a follow-up tweet, he added: "Harry has been President of @AfricanParks since 2017 and is currently assisting them to grow to 30 national parks under management by 2030 (currently they manage 19 parks in 11 countries).

"In a statement for #EarthDay, the duke also honoured Prince Philip’s own conservation work."

Harry returned to the US earlier this week to be with Meghan after travelling to Britain for the funeral.

Africa is said to hold a special place in the couple's relationship, with the duchess' ring made using a diamond from Botswana.
