The final three episodes of the documentary Harry & Meghan have dropped on Netflix and show that Prince Harry has a very strained relationship with his brother Prince William. Harry has said that he is "heartbroken" that William broke their "promise" about never letting their press offices work against each other.
Harry said that the Royal press offices work by deflecting interest from their member of the Royal family by leaking or publishing stories about different members of the Royal family and that this was generally accepted in the family. In the fourth episode Harry said that he and William agreed when they were younger to never do this.
He explained how the system worked. He said: "It was just constant briefings about other members of the family... it's a dirty game. You know, there's leaking, but there's also planting of stories. So if the comms team want to be able to remove a negative story about their principal they will trade and give you something about else's principal."
Harry added: "So the offices end up working against each other. It's a kind of weird understanding or acceptance that happens." Prince Harry then spoke about his and William's promise to never work against each other in this way.
Becoming slightly choked up as he spoke about William, he said: "William and I both saw what happened in our dad's office and we made an agreement that we would never let that happen to our office...to see my brother's office copy the very same thing that we promised the two of us would never ever do that was heartbreaking."
Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace, the representatives for Prince William and Kate, have not officially commented on the Netflix series. Harry and Meghan split from the Royal family in 2021 and have had a strained relationship with the rest of the family since.
