Prince Harry has “quite a bit to prove” with his controversial mental health docuseries, the author of a best-selling book about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said on Thursday.

Harry and chat show host Oprah Winfrey have produced The Me You Can’t See — which will be broadcast on Apple TV+ on Friday.

Omid Scobie, the co-author of Finding Freedom, said Harry, 36, was doing “everything he can” to ensure the success of the series. It will see a number of public figures — including Harry and Oprah plus singer Lady Gaga and actress Glenn Close — discuss their mental health issues.

Scobie said: “Harry is taking on the role of executive producer. He is doing everything he can to make sure it is seen by as many eyes as possible and it is as successful as possible. It is his first foray into being a producer. There is quite a bit to prove with this.”

He said Harry stepping back as a royal last year had allowed him to be more “involved” than originally anticipated.

“It started when he was a working royal. The further they got into it and the more time that passed and as they [Meghan and Harry] stepped away, it enabled him to be perhaps more involved than perhaps anticipated,” he said.

A trailer for the series was released on Monday, including a cameo appearance of Meghan and archive footage of Harry, aged 12, at his mother’s funeral.
