Prince Harry details first date with Meghan Markle... in a supermarket

A fancy dinner or a trip to the cinema usually cuts it for a first date.

But Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took a different approach - in order to avoid any eyes watching.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have been married three years next week, secretly met in a supermarket - and pretended not to know each other.

After keeping tight-lipped on how they met, Prince Harry has now revealed the lengths the couple went to keep their relationship a secret in the early days.

Speaking on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, he said: "The first time Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending we didn't know each other, texting each other from the other side of the aisles.

"There's people looking at me, giving me all these weird looks, and coming up to me and saying 'hi'.

"I texted her saying 'is this the right one?', and she said 'no you want parchment paper', and I’m like, 'where’s the parchment paper?'

"I had baseball cap on, looking down at the floor, trying to stay incognito. It’s amazing how much chewing gum you see, it’s a mess!'"

Speaking about the first time he set eyes on his wife in a BBC interview, Harry said: "I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her."

Harry and Meghan wed on May 19, 2018 (PA)

In the same interview, Meghan revealed: "We met for a drink, and then I think very quickly into that we said, ‘Well what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again."

Meghan has also since claimed she didn't do any research into Prince Harry and the Royals before they wed.

Meghan and Harry will celebrate their three year wedding anniversary on May 18.

The couple share son Archie, two, and are currently expecting their second child which they revealed is a girl.
