Prince Harry defends ‘cutting’ comments about William’s fading looks in CBS interview

Prince Harry has responded to claims that his comments about his brother's appearance were "cutting", stating that he never intended to hurt his family.

The comments were included in his new memoir, Spare, where Harry touched on his relationship with older brother Prince William.

Journalist Anderson Cooper grilled the Duke of Sussex in a televised interview on 60 minutes for CBS.

He asked the prince whether he thought the comments he had made about his brother, Prince William, were too harsh.

Anderson Cooper said to Harry: "You write about a contentious meeting you had with him in 2021.

"You said, 'I looked at Willy, really looked at him maybe for the first time since we were boys. I took it all in, his familiar scowl, which had always been his default in dealings with me, his alarming baldness, more advanced than my own, his famous resemblance to Mummy which was fading with time, with age.'

"That's pretty cutting."

Harry replied: "I don't see it as cutting at all. You know, my brother and I love each other. I love him deeply. There has been a lot of pain between the two of us, especially the last six years. None of anything I've written, anything that I've included is ever intended to hurt my family."

He added that what it did do was "give a full picture of the situation as we were growing up" and help to squash ideas that his wife Meghan was to blame for their faltering relationship.

Harry also admitted that he and his brother are "not texting" given the state of their strained relationship, and that he hasn't spoken to his father for “quite a while”.

Anderson Cooper asked him if the pair spoke to which Harry responded: "Currently, no, but I look forward to us being able to find peace."

Harry's interview with Anderson Cooper was the second of four global interviews the Duke of Sussex had put in place head of his autobiography.

The 60 minutes interview aired at 12:30 GMT, following Harry's ITV special, Harry - The Interview, which was broadcast at 9pm, yesterday evening.
