Prince Harry comforted by Aberdeen Airport worker as he leaves Balmoral alone

Prince Harry has been spotted at Aberdeen Airport being comforted by a worker the morning after the death of his beloved grandmother, the Queen.

The empathetic member of ground staff could be seen talking to the Duke of Sussex in the moments before he boarded the plane to leave Scotland and his family.

He was seen putting a kind hand on her back as they chatted in what was clearly an emotional moment between the pair.

The grieving Prince had headed back to the airport alone, as he did when he arrived before joining the royal family at Balmoral yesterday afternoon.

The Duke of Sussex raced to the Scottish Highlands to be at the monarch's bedside yesterday, but sadly arrived around 90 minutes after the announcement of her death at the age of 96.

He had been planning on travelling to the royal estate with his wife Meghan, but instead the couple opted for her to remain in London.

The Sussexes had been travelling in the UK to attend a number of events and were due to appear at the Well Child Awards last night before they pulled out following news of the Queen's deteriorating health.

He joined his father, now King Charles, who was in attendance with Camilla and Princess Anne.

His brother Prince William had also been seen racing to Balmoral.

The Duke of Cambridge drove his uncles Princes Andrew and Edward, and Edward's wife Sophie to see the Queen.

Prince Harry and wife Meghan were on the last leg of their UK tour and hadn't seen the Queen or any of the royals during their visit before the monarch's death.

The Duke of Sussex has been patron of WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children and their families, since 2007 and despite stepping down as a working royal has maintained his links with the organisation.

This morning the Harry was seen being driven through the main gates of the Royal residence by his security team as part of a two-car convoy.

Yesterday afternoon an official statement from Buckingham Palace announced the Queen's death.

It read: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."
