Prince Harry and William to 'stand shoulder to shoulder' at unveiling of Diana statue

Prince Harry is determined to stand 'shoulder to shoulder' with Prince William at the unveiling of a statue of their late mother Princess Diana, it is reported.

Whatever the consequences of the interview Harry and Meghan have done with Oprah Winfrey, airing tonight, Harry reportedly hopes he and William can show a united front.

The unveiling of the statue of the Princess of Wales is set for July 1, which would have been Diana's 60th birthday.

A source told the Telegraph that the Duke of Sussex considers it a priority to attend the event.

Neither Meghan Markle or Kate Middleton are expected to attend the unveiling of the statue.

William and Harry commissioned the statue which will sit in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace, where Diana lived before she died, in 2017.

It was first announced to mark the 20th anniversary of her death, but while the creation progressed the installation was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking when the statue was first announced, a source close to the Palace reportedly said : “Prince William and Prince Harry have dreamed of doing this for a long time.

"They were both just boys when their mother passed away, but are both now fully grown men and want to honour her in the best way possible.

"It has taken 20 years for this to finally come to fruition so they are determined it will be a lasting and fitting legacy in what is their official London residence and a place special to them both."
