Prince Harry and Prince William issue statement on 'false story' amid royal crisis talks

Prince Harry and Prince William have released a joint statement condemning a 'false story' about bullying within the Royal Family.

Addressing claims that Harry and activist and actress wife Meghan Markle had been "bullied" out, the brothers' statement said the report was both "offensive and harmful".

The statement was released amid crisis talks at Sandringham over the future of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who said last week that they were stepping back as 'senior members' of the Royal Family in a bombshell announcement.

Several national papers ran reports today suggesting that Prince Harry's motivation for standing down was linked to his brother's 'bullying' - a claim that has now been strongly denied by both.

The statement reads: "Despite clear denials, a false story ran in a UK newspaper today speculating about the relationship between The Duke of Sussex and The Duke of Cambridge.

"For brothers who care so deeply about the issues surrounding mental health, the use of inflammatory language in this way is offensive and potentially harmful."

The statement did not name the newspaper specifically, but the Times has a front page story about the crisis.

The report also says a source told the publication that Harry and Meghan "regarded themselves as having been pushed away by what they saw as a bullying attitude from the Duke of Cambridge".

The Sandringham summit today will be the first time the Queen has spoken in person to her grandson, Prince Harry, since the announcement.

Meghan is currently in Canada with the couple's baby son, Archie, but is expected to take part via a video call.
