Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's names dropped from Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal charity

In June this year it was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be breaking away from the charity they presided over with Prince William and Kate Middleton. Now, Harry and Meghan's titles have been formally removed from the charity's name.

In a document made available by Companies House on August 21, it was announced that a change of name resolution had been passed on August 8, 2019. Prior to the resolution, the charity’s full name was The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - the charity will now be known simply as The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

This is the second name change that the charity has undergone, as in June 2018 the charity name was amended to include Meghan Markle’s official royal title, the Duchess of Sussex.

It was also recently announced that Mediacom chairwoman Karen Blackett OBE had been appointed as director of Prince Harry and Meghan’s new charity, which is called Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on Companies House. (The foundation also has an Instagram handle under the same name.)

Prince Harry and Meghan have championed a number of issues under the Sussex Royal umbrella, which include Harry’s Invictus Games tournament for injured veterans, Meghan’s upcoming clothing collaboration with Smartworks to support unemployed women and raising the profile of numerous charities and activists through their Instagram and a recent British Vogue issue guest-edited by Meghan.

The royal couple was recently criticised for championing environmental causes after it was revealed Harry and Meghan had taken several private jet trips in a matter of weeks.

Singer Elton John, who revealed he had organised one of their flights, defended the couple and said that he had made sure the flight was “carbon neutral” to “support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment”.

While Prince William and Kate Middleton’s efforts sometimes overlap with Prince Harry and Meghan’s, the couple also focuses on mental health, promoting physical health as well as helping armed forces veterans transition into back into civilian life.
