Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hail 'legend of banter' Prince Philip who was 'always himself'

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are remembering Prince Philip as a "legend of banter".

The couple have hailed the Duke of Edinburgh's "great humour" and how he stayed 'cheeky right ‘til the end'.

Harry also thanked his grandpa for "always being himself" and for supporting the Queen.

He has now flown back to the UK for the funeral, which will take place in Windsor on Saturday.

Harry wrote: “My grandfather was a man of service, honour and great humour.

"He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm—and also because you never knew what he might say next.

“He was my grandpa: master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right ‘til the end.”

Meghan will not attend the funeral despite "making every effort" to show up and support.

It comes after doctors advised her not to travel as she is pregnant with the couple's second child.

Hours after Philip's death on Friday, Meghan and Harry posted a short tribute on their Archewell website.

The homepage read: "In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. 1921 - 2021.

"Thank you for your service. You will be greatly missed."

The couple have removed all other information from their website.

Yesterday, Philip's children shared their own tributes to their late father.

Princess Anne wrote: “You know it’s going to happen but you are never really ready.

"My father has been my teacher, my supporter and my critic, but mostly it is his example of a life well lived and service freely given that I most wanted to emulate.

His ability to treat every person as an individual in their own right with their own skills comes through all the organisations with which he was involved.

"I regard it as an honour and a privilege to have been asked to follow in his footsteps and it has been a pleasure to have kept him in touch with their activities.

"I know how much he meant to them, in the UK, across the Commonwealth and in the wider world.

"I would like to emphasise how much the family appreciate the messages and memories of so many people whose lives he also touched. We will miss him but he leaves a legacy which can inspire us all."

Attending a church service, Prince Andrew said: "[Prince Philip] was so calm. If you had a problem, he would think about it.

"He was always somebody you could go to and he would always listen so it's a great loss.
