Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce first joint UK engagement since stepping back from royal duties

Details of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first joint UK engagement since they announced plans to step down from royal duties, have been released.

Prince Harry and Meghan will attend the Endeavour Fund Awards at Mansion House in London on March 5, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The annual event celebrates the achievements of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women who have taken part in extraordinary sporting and adventurous challenges over the last year.

The award nominees have all been supported by the Endeavour Fund, which helps sick service personnel or veterans explore new physical expeditions as part of their recovery.

Current sporting challenges include a long distance three-country cycling trip, a surfing programme and a para-snow sports scheme.

Several people took to Twitter to share their support for Prince Harry and Meghan following the announcement: “Great Cause, can’t wait to see them and this engagement. Once a soldier always a soldier.

“Having you announce engagements makes you more visible and get the publicity that every charity needs”, one user wrote.

Another added: “I’m so excited. The awards are always inspiring and I’ve missed seeing the Duke and Duchess so much.”

The announcement follows Prince Harry’s visit to Edinburgh on Wednesday where he spoke at a sustainable tourism conference.

Marking one of his final official engagements as a senior royal, the Duke of Sussex asked to be introduced to the room without any of his formal titles.

Ayesha Hazarika, who introduced Harry on stage, said: “He’s made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry, so ladies and gentlemen, let’s give a big warm Scottish welcome... to Harry.”

Last week, it was confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan will formally stand down as senior royals on 31 March. Their Buckingham Palace office will close on 1 April.
