Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announce birth of baby daughter called Lilibet Diana

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed a baby daughter.

Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, who will be known as Lili, was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in California, on Friday at 11.40.

The baby is Harry and Meghan second child, following the birth of Archie in 2019, and is the Queen's 11th grandchild. Both mother and baby are well, the family said in a statement.

A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess said: "It is with great joy that Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, to the world.

"She weighed 7lbs 11oz (3.5kg). Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home."

They added: "Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet.

"Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.

"The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family."
